
Chantal Yzermans
Chantal Yzermans was born in Ostend, Belgium, currently residing in New York.
Yzermans worked in Europe as a freelance choreographer in collaboration with
Belgian composer Starfish Pool. Together they toured throughout Europe and
Canada with Ritual for the Dying. She has received awards from The
Vondelpreis (reisestipendium), and The Alfred Toepfer Stifftung in Hamburg,
Germany. Ms Yzermans was invited to work for the Belgian National
Television, German National Television, and Festival van Vlaanderen for which
she choreographed a contemporary opera Turm aus Zimst by German composer Hans
Rotman and Belgian film director Jaak Servaes. She worked as a choreographer
in residence at the Keizer Karel Hogeschool in Antwerp, Belgium, and
presented in venues throughout France, Netherlands, and Germany. In New York
City her work has been performed in venues such as Judson Church, Movement
Research, 92nd Street Y, the Merce Cunningham Studio, and Joyce Soho Theatre.
In the summer of 2002 Ms. Yzermans, with Kurt Ralske, performed the solo
project RL1 in Brussels and Amsterdam. Chantal Yzermans was commissioned in
August 2002 to choreograph Midsummer Variation for the contemporary dance
company Free Art D in Belgium. Currently, Chantal Yzermans is an Artist in
Residence At Movement Research.
