Jim Coleman
Jim Coleman has been experimenting with sound since his early childhood. As a kid he was unhappy with the
way things were supposed to sound, so he would play 45 rpm vinyl at 16 rpm. Later in life, this evolved to
multitrack recordings of intricate tape loops taken from scuba diving documentaries.
In the late 1980's through 1996, Coleman was an integral member of the seminal NYC noise band Cop Shoot
Cop. Since 1996, he has released solo material under the monikers of Phylr and Coleman. He has several
ongoing collaborations: here is a collaboration with Italy based Teho Teardo (Matera, Operator); Baby
Zizanie is a collaboration with Jim Thirlwell (Foetus, Steroid Maximus), and Sinner G is a collaboration
with Belgiun singer Micheline Van Houten (Mich-en Scene).
Coleman also has an ongoing career scoring music for films, television, and theatre. He has worked with
directors such as Hal Hartley (Henry Fool, Flirt), Todd Phillips (Frat House, Road Trip), and Beth B
(Two Small Bodies), picking up awards both at Sundance Film Festival and at Cannes Film Festival. He is
currently scoring a series for The Learning Channel about Miami Crime Scene Investigations.
