Kurt Ralske
Kurt Ralske is a Manhattan-based video artist and composer. His work is exclusively
created with his own custom software, written in C, Java, Max.MSP, and Nato.0+55.
His work involves the expressive improvisation of both sound and image, simultaneously
and in real-time. He has performed at museums, galleries, and theaters throughout
Europe, Canada, and the US. His performance "Ur.02" was awarded honors at Transmediale
International Media Arts Festival in Berlin in February 2002. In a review of
Kurt's performance "Radical Low" at Merce Cunningham Studio in New York City,
the New York Times praised his "compelling, ingenious alliance of sound and
motion" and his "technological wizardry". Kurt is a member of the "real-time
video improvisation ensemble" 242.pilots (together with HC Gilje and Lukasz
Lysakowski) who have completed two tours of Europe and Canada. The 242.pilots
DVD "Live in Bruxelles" was released on the Carpark imprint in November 2002,
and has been nominated for Image Award at Transmediale.03 Festival in Berlin.
